Here at Castle Fruit Farm we are big fans of the versatile Comice Pear, equally delicious roasted with caramel, baked in a pie or layered in a savoury tart, or, my personal favourite, thinly sliced and eaten with buttery toast. Today we are looking at a beautifully classic, and mouth-watering, flavour combination: pear and stilton.
Comice Pear and Colston Bassett Stilton starters
Half your pear* and core it with a teaspoon.
Place a slice of Colston Bassett Stilton on each pear half (or artfully arrange the pear in thick slices). And that’s all there is to it. You are just minutes away from indulging in a creamy, decadent treat. Easy!.
To take the flavours to a new level, top with a spoonful of the Kitchen Garden’s Blackcurrant Jam (available from Norma and Glen at All Seasons Delicatessen in Newent) to add a tangy kick.
Bon appetit!
*selecting a ripe pear is much like selecting a ripe avocado, there should be a slight give when you gently press your thumb against the flesh of the pear.
